Pachygrapsus marmoratus (Fabricius, 1787) Black Sea
Range. “Pachygrapsus marmoratus is known from the entire Mediterranean, the Black Sea,
and the E. Atlantic between the Normandy coast of France in the north, and Morocco, the
Canary Islands, the Azores and Madeira in the south.” [Holthuis & Gottlieb, 1958, p. 101].
The species is the most common crab on the rocky coasts of the Black Sea (littoral and
supralittoral). Sometimes it goes to the dry land. Balanus improvissus is often encrust it.

Size of carapace. Up to 40 x 45 mm. [Kobjakova & Dolgopolskaya, 1969, p. 298]. Breadth -
to 42 mm (male); in the ovigerous females the carapace breadth is 13 to 35 mm. [Holthuis,
1961, p. 59].
