Macropodia longirostris (Fabricius, 1775) Black Sea
Range. “The species has been reported from the entire Mediterranean, the Black Sea and
the E Atlantic between the Faeroes and Senegal” [Holthuis, L.B. & Gottlieb, E., 1958, p.
109].
In the Black Sea it is found up to a depth of 15-20 m on stones among algae and on sand
with Zostera. [Kobjakova & Dolgopolskaya, 1969, p. 289]. In the Black Sea it inhabits the
south part of Karkinit Bay at a depth of 12 m among Zostera. Off Bulgaria coasts it was
recorded from a depth of 1 to 5 m. At the same time it was found at a depth of 1635 m in
Atlantic Ocean (Bacescu, 1967). [Makarov, 2004, p. 331].
Size of carapace. Up to 30 mm (length). [Kobjakova & Dolgopolskaya, 1969, p. 289].
