Common name: toad crab
Range. “H. c. coarctatus ranges from off North Carolina northeasterly with the trend of the
Gulf Stream to northwestern Europe, thence eastward in the Arctic to the Murman Sea.”

Size. “Measurements in mm. —Carapace: male, length 30.2, width 19.7 (off Cape Cod); male,
length 51.5, width 35 (Murman Sea) (both typical form, Rathbun 1925); male, length 8-62;
female, length 9-45 (Squires 1967).” [Williams, 1984, p. 310].
