Macropodia rostrata (Linnaeus, 1761) Arctic Ocean & Black Sea
Range. “Macropodia rostrata inhabits the entire Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and the E
Atlantic between the Murman coast and S Africa” [Holthuis, L.B. & Gottlieb, E., 1958, p. 109].
In the Black Sea it is found at the same habitat as Macropodia longirostris, but apparently it is
more rare species. [Kobjakova & Dolgopolskaya, 1969, p. 289]. In the Black Sea it avoids
brackish water and inhabits littoral and sublittoral zones from Tarkhankut Cape to Caucasus.
[Makarov, 2004, p. 335].
Size of carapace. 15,5 x 12,5 mm, male. [Bacescu, 1967, p. 268]. Up to 22 mm. [Makarov,
2004, p. 333].
